Read carefully as this petition affects all American Citizens who engage in buying or selling of used goods in the state of Florida. This is a national problem but this petition is being formed to start at a local level then be addressed at a national level.Currently our State government has instructed all businesses who engage in Retail sales to collect sales tax at a rate imposed by their local county. These rates vary from %6 percent up to %7.5 percent depending on which county you purchased your items from. While I agree that these rates are fair to help create revenue for our state to provide much needed programs and create infrastructure, I disagree with the sales tax rate imposed on used goods. The problem is not the sales tax rates imposed on New Goods. The problem is the sales tax rates imposed on used goods inflating the value of that item and the taxes collected according to the inflated value.. To help you understand this issue I will give you an example. Lets say you purchase a new vehicle from the manufacturer at your local car dealership for $75,000 and your sales tax rate is %7 percent. The purchaser will pay a sales tax of $5,250 on that vehicle. That vehicle is worth $75,000 brand new. Lets say that on average that vehicle will be sold at least 6 times before it is no longer operable. The next time that vehicle was sold the purchaser bought it for $50,000 and paid $3,500 in sales tax. The next purchaser after that paid $25,000 for the vehicle and paid a sales tax of $1,750. The following purchaser paid $15,000 and a sales tax of $1,050. The next purchaser after that paid $8,000 for the vehicle and a sales tax of $560. The last purchaser of that vehicle paid $4000 and a sales tax of $280. Now lets add up all the sales tax that was collected on a car that was worth $75000. The total amount of money collected in sales tax on that vehicle is $12,110. That vehicle new is worth only $75000. The tax rate collected through out the operable working span of that vehicle is over %16 percent. That vehicle was taxed 6 times making that vehicle worth $177,000 dollars at a tax rate imposed at %6 percent. That $75000 vehicle is actually worth $177,000 dollars according your government. That is unfair an unbalanced. The local and state governments need to establish a difference between sales tax collected on new goods and sales tax collected on used goods. It is in my opinion that taxes collected should be imposed once on a new item and deemed exempt when resold used. I understand that because our government is flawed that people at a higher position in the political field who regulate these laws and collect these taxes may take to offense this action imposed as this may affect their salaries and their lifestyle. We the People demand a fair and balanced approach on this issue. If our government cannot exempt taxes collected on used goods sold our Government should decrease sales tax rates imposed on used goods substantially to avoid the inflation of value on any item deemed tangible and avoid taxes paid according to the inflated value. Imposing a sales tax rate for a used item at the same sales tax rate for a new item is unfair. Our laws should be created for justice and not profit. Please sign this petition. Thank You.
